Lens Options
Technology-driven choices.
Glass lenses have given way to advanced new plastics that are lighter, thinner, less breakable, more scratch-resistant and better capable of adapting to a variety of enhancements. Edina Eye provides the widest range of lenses to meet the broad needs of our patients. Your doctor and optician will help you determine which lens is best suited to your eye type and personal needs.
Anti-Reflective Lenses
The special coating reduces glare, reflections and nighttime light halos while also offering protection from scratches and smudges.
Aspheric Lenses
Spherical in shape with differing degrees of curvature over its surface, allowing the lens to be thinner and flatter and also offer more usable surface than standard lenses.
Bifocal Lenses
A single lens that corrects for near-sightedness and far-sightedness, with the top of the lens prescribed for distance viewing and the bottom of the lens prescribed for close-up viewing.
Glass Lenses
Still available and favored for some applications, glass lenses are the hardest lens available and offer exceptional clarity.
High-Index Plastic Lenses
A special plastic allowing stronger prescriptions to be treated with a lens that is lighter and thinner than the “coke bottle” lenses previously offered.
Photochromic Lenses
Available in glass or plastic, these lenses change from clear to tinted when exposed to sunlight and serve as an alternative to prescription sunglasses.
Polarized Lenses
Special treatment reduces glare and provides distinct visual advantages while driving and engaged in any activities on water.
Polycarbonate Lenses
Impact-resistant and ideal for kids and people who are active or involved in work activities where their eyeglasses may be easily scratched or broken. Also available with ultraviolet protection.
Progressive Lenses
A smooth progression of power without lines separating the sections found on typical bifocals, enabling the wearer to see at intermediate distances as well as near and far.
Scratch-Resistant Lenses
A special hard coating helps prevent scratches to your lenses and the resulting obstruction to your vision.
Trifocal Lenses
In addition to the top of the lens prescribed for distance viewing and the bottom of the lens prescribed for close-up viewing, this lens offers an extra section prescribed for viewing objects within a few feet, such as a computer monitor.
Trivex Lenses
Made from a newer polycarbonate-like plastic that is lightweight, thin, impact-resistant and for some a better vision correction solution than polycarbonate lenses.
